Agartala, Dec 09: Power minister Ratanlal Nath attended the 25th meeting of the North East Regional Power Committee (NERPC) organized by NTPC in Kolkata on Saturday.
The meeting was organized and hosted by NTPC Ltd and NERPC Secretariat and it addressed critical issues in the power sector, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for progress in the region.
Taking part in the discussions, Nath highlighted the development plans for the power sector in Tripura. As decided in the meeting, the works for 400KV power station at Suryamaninagar would be expedited, following which direct connection would be established from Palatana power plant. Besides, the works for extension of power line from Suryamaninagar to Monarchak (132KV double circuit) would be implemented fast. It would enable direct power transmission from the Monarchak plant to Suryamaninagar through double circuit line.
He also focused on installation of surge arresters in high transmission lines to prevent any damage of the line during lightning.
Nath also stressed on installation of high-capacity mobile sub-station, emergency restoration system, use of modern equipment, observation of HT lines through drones, setting up of another State Load Despatch Centre at Purba Kanchanbari of Kumarghat as back up of Agartala SLDC.
On December 8 last, the meeting of the technical coordination committee was held at the same place. TSECL MD Debashis Sarkar and GM of Tripura Power Transmission Limited Ranjan Deb Barman were present in both the meetings.
The Power minister informed the meeting that a survey was already initiated to develop a pump storage project to meet the demand of electricity during peak hours. The project would be implemented as per the central guidelines released on April 23, this year. Five locations were already identified for the project and NHPC had already started the initial process.
The Power minister also highlighted the on-going projects in the state. He also said, necessary steps were taken in the State Load Despatch Centre for ensuring cyber safety.
He said, as of now, 40000 solar street lights, 2500 solar pumps and 3MW solar rooftop were installed in the state. Besides, NTPC has been assigned to study the possibility of a proposed floating solar power plant in Dumboor Lake.
